Organised By : Pooja Mishra, Suparna Saha, Jonaki Chattopadhyay
About the Event :
The Bagless Day aimed to provide students with a joyful, experiential learning environment beyond textbooks and classroom lessons. Through hands-on activities and interactive learning aids at the Museum of Words, students developed curiosity, creativity and practical skills while learning in a stress-free setting.
Highlights:
Immersive Galleries: The digital and experiential displays across the nine galleries captivated the students’ attention.
Interactive Linguistics: The oral traditions, script-tracing installations, and audio-visual modules effectively transformed abstract concepts of grammar and linguistics into fun, tangible activities.
Joyful Learning Environment: True to the “Bagless Day” philosophy, students exhibited high enthusiasm, curiosity, and low anxiety levels due to the lack of heavy backpacks, notebooks, and formal assessments during the trip.
Impact/Outcome :
Transitioning away from traditional rote learning allowed them to interactively engage with the evolution of Indian languages.
The visit perfectly aligned with curriculum goals by fostering a deep appreciation for linguistic diversity and cultural heritage (“Many Languages, One Emotion”).
Students participated in casual word-tracing and listening exercises that naturally enhanced their cognitive listening skills and literacy curiosity.
The trip seamlessly bridged gaps between History (the evolution of scripts), Social Studies (regional languages), and Language Arts.
