Campus Diaries

Hello, I'm Sayantani Datta- a final-Year MBBS Student, Armed Forces Medical College, Pune. Alumna, G.D. Birla Centre for Education

As I approach the final chapter of my undergraduate journey at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, I find myself reflecting on the roots that made this path possible. Becoming a doctor was something I’d been passionate about since childhood and that dream found its wings within the walls of my beloved school, G.D. Birla Centre for Education.
I owe much of who I am today to the years I spent at G.D. Birla and to my parents who’d always encouraged me to dream big.
My school helped me evolve, academically and personally. The values of discipline and humility were instilled in us from the very beginning. Whether in the classroom or during quiet moments in the library, I was always learning—about the world, about people, and about myself.
The journey to AFMC was far from easy. Preparing for medical entrance exams meant sacrifice—social events missed, holidays spent studying, and hours of self-doubt battled quietly. But what kept me going was the solid foundation my parents and teachers had given me: the belief that hard work pays off and that perseverance always wins.
I still remember the way our teachers encouraged us, not just to score marks, but to think deeper and aim higher. I look back now and realize how those little moments—the reassurance in a teacher’s voice, the pep talks before an exam—carried immense weight in my life’s journey. Today, as I train to serve the country through medicine, I carry those early lessons with pride.
AFMC has been a transformative experience. The discipline, the camaraderie, and the sense of responsibility that come with this badge are immense. Yet, amidst all of it, I often think back to where it all started—to my school that dared me to dream and prepared me to chase it and my parents who always kept me motivated to do my best.
I’ve often heard that every success begins with a strong foundation—and I was fortunate that mine was built at G.D. Birla Centre for Education.
With deepest gratitude,
Sayantani Datta
